Tayrona National Park, Colombia
By sally-annephillips | views [4] | Wed, 22 Feb 2012
The Tayrona National Park is a beautiful area less than 40 kilometres from Santa Marta, Colombia. It is a simple matter to get a group car or a local bus to the entrance of the park, where you purchase the entry ticket. When I arrived there were only 12 people ahead of me in line, but it took half ... Read more >

It all started with my mobile phone hiding under my bedside stand. My alarm blared but I was unable to locate it without getting out of bed, walking across my room to turn on the light and then switching the annoying sound off. I stood in my room, thoroughly unimpressed and said to God, “Right I’m ... Read more >

Welcome back to The World in a Nutshell! We left Barriloche mostly as planned - if we had planned to start nearly two hours late thanks to bus delays - and arrived in Valdivia, Chile, with little in the way of drama. The bus ride provided us with some more beautiful scenery and the odd stop at immigration ... Read more >

When I was here over Chinese New Year on my own, I thought that that would be the hardest time and when other students came and things got back into a routine, things would be easier, but that wasn’t the case at all. Although I was alone a lot over the New Year, I was never actually lonely. Once ... Read more >

Sassi of Matera
By vagabonds | views [8] | Mon, 20 Feb 2012
On the surface Matera seems to be a new (for Italy) town, built in the 1960s. But there is an old town where any building could date back to the 8th Century, or earlier. We had the slippery, narrow streets and steep stairways to ourselves on this drizzly morning. The only other activity came from ... Read more >
